GWI provides a global voice for women graduates, working for the adoption and implementation of international agreements that will protect and benefit all girls and women. GWI enjoys special consultative status with ECOSOC and UNESCO and is an active advocate with the United Nations and other international agencies that work with country governments to develop and implement policies.
Geneva co-hosts meetings, with New York, for ECOSOC and CONGO. In addition, the Geneva team follows the Human Rights Council, the International Labour Office (ILO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). GWI works closely with NGO coalitions, in particular with the Special Committee of International NGOs on Human Rights and the Committee on the Status of Women. The team is active in many of the special working groups.

Working relationships with UN staff and with other NGOs develop mainly through participation in NGO Committee where collaborative work is generally accomplished.
